More than 140 House Democrats voted to codify a federal division to investigate, prosecute, and remedy fraud. Democrats rarely vote for any Republican initiative, though they do love more government; perhaps they don’t want to be labeled pro-fraud since they have a strong commitment to criminals and people who enter illegally. They can’t add “pro-fraud” to it.
The Internet, lax government oversight, and unfettered money flowing from the federal government have opened up a whole new world for fraudsters. DOGE brought this to our attention.
HR 9576, the National Fraud Enforcement Division Act of 2026, will move to the Senate. President Trump will sign it if the Senate approves since he proposed the division in January.
Colin McDonald, the current Assistant Attorney General for the Fraud Division at the DOJ, will lead it.
Fox News reports that the support was unexpected.
President Donald Trump’s crackdown on government fraud is getting unexpected backup from a majority of House Democrats, including Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y…. [The Fraud Enforcement Division] was notably used as a cudgel against Trump’s political enemies earlier this year, when Vice President JD Vance referred Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and state Attorney General Keith Ellison to the fraud division for a potential criminal investigation.
We have come a long way since Biden.
One FBI agent under Biden wanted to prosecute Elon Musk for DOGE. Under Biden, Democrats were vehemently opposed to DOGE and Elon Musk. They fought him at every turn.
It’s not a good look.
