The murderers’ lawyer is trying to present this case as unintended circumstances. The story is horrible. An elderly man and his wife stopped at Walmart in Norfolk, Virginia, after church. He told a black female employee she nearly hit his wife with his heavy cart and didn’t say excuse me or sorry. She threw a can at them; they are immigrants from the Philippines. They continued their shopping. Within a short time, the parents of the teen showed up at the store, and they attacked after very few words were exchanged. They killed the man, Bert Atienza, who was decades older.
One of the parents hit Bert in the face; he fell and was bleeding from his mouth. They kicked him while he was down. He died from blunt force trauma.
The parents are held without bond on second-degree murder, and the daughter was also charged with assault and battery. The daughter got off too easy.
According to the parents’ lawyer, they didn’t mean for it to happen. Any parent would have shown up after hearing their daughter was upset, the lawyer claimed.
Uh, no, no one will buy that, especially after watching the video. I mention race because the fierceness with which the family attacked this 77-year-old man suggests a powerful motive beyond their out-of-control daughter.
