In a decisive blow to decades of federal overreach on firearms, the U.S. Department of Justice has allowed a landmark court victory for Second Amendment rights to take full effect, Conservative Brief reports.
The administration will not file any emergency appeal of a ruling that guts key registration mandates under the National Firearms Act.
U.S. District Judge James Wesley Hendrix delivered the pivotal decision on August 5, determining that the NFA’s longstanding registration and transfer requirements for suppressors, short-barreled rifles, and short-barreled shotguns could no longer be enforced.
The reason was straightforward and rooted in the Constitution: Congress had already eliminated the law’s $200 tax through legislation, stripping away the original taxing power that had propped up the entire regulatory scheme since 1934.

Democrats have been after hunters, too. Well, that’s over too. President Trump issued executive orders to hold the line. He opened up two national monuments for hunting, brought back lead bullets, and gave access to more public land.
In September 2026, the White House released the “Reinvigorating America’s Hunting Heritage” executive order, which:
- Opens hunting in Craters of the Moon National Monument (Idaho) and Castle Mountains National Monument (California)
- Directs federal agencies to encourage the use of lead ammunition and fishing tackle as part of supporting traditional hunting practices
- Sets 60–365 day timelines for implementing related regulations, with some measures voluntary and others tied to state authority
The order cites a decline in hunting nationwide and aims to boost public access, invasive species control, and wildlife management.
