A 36-year-old illegal alien from Guyana named Yogesh Sayrange has been arrested after being seen on video throwing a Molotov cocktail at a church in Queens, one of two he’s accused of attacking Wednesday night, officials say.
Both attacks happened shortly before midnight, at Iglesia Bautista El Mesias and Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, on 75th and 78th streets, respectively, according to police.
A Firebomb Maniac
In both cases, the man admitted he firebombed them and later took it back. He allegedly threw a fireball at the front door. In each case, a fire started when it hit the ground.
Investigators later learned that around the same time, the suspect lit a third Molotov cocktail and threw it at an ambulette service building on Rockaway Boulevard near 77th Street in Woodhaven, police said.
“Yea, I f–king firebombed them,” Sayrange allegedly told investigators about a separate bombing of a deli, adding without explanation: “They’re Muslims, scum and terrorists.”
The NYPD later linked him to another case, one involving an auto body shop on Rockaway Boulevard.
By Thursday, he only faced official charges in the smoke shop crime – but prosecutors say they suspect that he is involved in seven total arsons dating back to June.
Sayrange also allegedly confessed to the June 25 deli arson, identifying himself both with and without the eerie face covering, according to the feds, who are still probing him for all the alleged firebomb attacks.
But the accused arsonist vehemently proclaimed his innocence in court.
Seen on Video
Surveillance footage shows one of the religious institution scenes. Yogesh Sayrange is seen standing on the sidewalk outside the church fence. He ignites something, then hurls a fireball at the church entrance.
The fireball hit the door and bounced to the ground, where it continued to burn. Firefighters put it out.
He has a criminal record that involved threats with a knife and an ax. In mid-June 2026, he was accused of threatening someone with a metal knuckle knife in Manhattan. He also waved an ax at a man in Queens while threatening to decapitate him. However, it’s Sanctuary New York. So, he was allowed to roam the streets, where no criminal has to stay in prison.
