The Maine senatorial race has been chaotic. First, the Democrats nominated a womanizer and potential rapist with a Totenkopf tattoo who admits he is a communist. Herr or Comrade Platner had to drop out since the rape accusation from a former leftist girlfriend was too much for the party.
The Democratic Party in Maine then appointed 600 officials to choose a new candidate instead of going with the elected candidate. They chose Troy Jackson, another inadequate candidate. Actually, he’s not only inadequate, but he might also be ineligible.
Maine has a “sore loser” law that bans a candidate who lost an election from running for another office in the same cycle. Democrats might skate on this because of a loophole.

Maine law also provides political parties with a process to replace nominees who withdraw after winning a primary, but the statutes do not specifically address whether someone who lost a different statewide primary may be selected as the replacement nominee. That ambiguity has become the focus of White’s request.
It’s hard to say who they would pick next; probably another candidate with issues, possibly Nirav Shah.
