Edwin Lopez-Cornejo died Aug. 1 at University Hospital in Newark. He suffered a medical emergency while detained at the Delaney Hall Detention Facility, according to an ICE statement.
Staff with the GEO Group, the private detention company that manages the facility, along with medical personnel, responded to the emergency and called 911.
The official cause of death remains pending. We are sorry he died, but he was legitimately in Delaney. He broke the law twice, and was ordered deported and returned
Lopez-Cornejo was first apprehended by US Border Patrol for entering the US without inspection on or about Aug. 13, 2006. A Department of Justice immigration judge ordered him removed on Aug. 25, 2006, and he was deported to El Salvador on Oct. 19, 2006. He later re-entered the US illegally on an unknown date before ICE officers arrested him in Plainfield, New Jersey, on June 18.
He was held at Delaney Hall pending removal after his prior removal order was reinstated. ICE officials said that Lopez-Cornejo received proper medical care during his detention.

We don’t even know what he died from, and the radical communists and anarchists are marching on Delaney. They want to close it. They want to keep every person here illegally, including criminals. It works every time because the media and the politicians back their insanity. They pull this against Border Patrol, the police, anyone who doesn’t do their bidding.
Far-left gov. Mikie Sherrill is jumping on this, attacking ICE and pretending they’re hiding bad conditions at Delaney. Quite a few Democrat politicians are commenting online, demanding ICE release non-criminal illegal immigrants.
Democrats want you to believe that if they aren’t criminals, we shouldn’t deport them. That is more insanity from the left. Allowing open borders invites more to come illegally. Democrats just want their votes, and they are willing to continue open borders.
