Matt Rattley (also referred to in some reports as Matt Radley), a biochemistry tutor at St Hilda’s College, University of Oxford, went viral for wearing a dress, makeup, and large prosthetic breasts alongside a full beard while teaching.
Matt Rattley has not publicly identified as a transgender woman, but rather presents as gender-nonconforming or non-binary.

On his LinkedIn profile, he uses they/them pronouns, but the university officially refers to him as ‘Mr.’ Rattley. He has been an unpaid lecturer since 2023, graduated from Somerville College in 2012, and a video of him speaking about imposter syndrome amassed more than 2.5 million views before the controversy erupted.
What is troubling is that St Hilda’s was founded in 1893 exclusively for women.
