President Trump has rejected the latest proposal from Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz in seven days and launch in-depth negotiations to end the war.
“I’m rejecting their deal,” Mr. Trump told reporters while leaving the White House on Saturday to travel to Tennessee. “They want to make a deal where they open the strait immediately because they are losing so badly. You don’t see that in the fake news. We’re winning tremendously; we have total control of the Hormuz Strait; massive amounts of oil are coming out of the Hormuz Strait; last night we had 29 ships come out.”
“They want to make a deal,” he continued. “I think that’s fine, I like making a deal too. But that deal [they offered] would not be acceptable.”
Both the U.S. and Iran expressed optimism about talks held in New York during the U.N. General Assembly.
The deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz was reportedly similar to the Islamabad memorandum signed in June, including ending the blockade, allowing Iranian oil sales, and halting fighting in every Middle East theater.

“If this message reaches the president of the United States, or the interviewers and those involved in the discussions, naturally the process will begin from the very day they accept it,” he said.
Meanwhile, Iran is allegedly bypassing the Hormuz Strait by trucking it to Syrian ports.

President Trump won’t let the midterms affect his handling of the war, so they can forget about pushing their ridiculous deal. No one thinks a deal can be made, no one. What I do believe is that Trump won’t allow this to go on much longer.
President Trump is handling the war, and we won’t see anything significant until after the election. I see war as mutual destruction, but President Trump said they saw an imminent existential problem. Iran was building a missile fortress around their underground nuclear facilities. I am reluctantly giving him the benefit of the doubt and that he has a cogent plan. Iran shouldn’t have a nuclear weapon since they constantly threaten to use it on the US and our allies. They terrorize everyone in the region now, as well as our military, so they would be worse with a nuclear weapon. Many believe Israel talked Trump into going to war, but it’s hard to believe anyone talks him into anything he doesn’t want to do.
That being said, the Iran and Ukraine wars need to end. Too many are dying for nothing.
