There are some danger signs for Republicans in the upcoming election if the polls are anywhere near accurate.
In Iowa, the race between Republican Rep. Ashley Hinson and Democratic state Rep. Josh Turek to replace retiring Republican Sen. Joni Ernst was shifted from “lean Republican” to a toss-up earlier this month by Cook Political Report.
James Talarico led Ken Paxton by three points (42%-39%), while 3% of respondents preferred Libertarian Ted Brown and 14% had no preference. Democratic former Rep. Mary Peltola is vying to unseat Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan, who is seeking a third term. Peltola beat Sullivan by five points in the primary.
Troy Jackson led Susan Collins by three points in a University of New Hampshire poll taken in July. Maine is the only state of the six toss-ups that Trump lost in 2024.
Former Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown, who lost to Trump-backed Sen. Bernie Moreno in 2024 in Ohio, is aiming for a comeback against Republican Sen. Jon Husted. A Fox News poll taken earlier this month shows Husted trailing Brown by eight points, while a plurality of respondents, 33%, said Husted is too close to Trump.
A survey released Monday by Michigan pollster Epic-MRA found El-Sayed ahead by four points, 47% to 43%, though 10% refused to respond or said they were undecided—meanwhile, a survey by Susquehanna Polling and Research released earlier this month showed El-Sayed leading by seven points.
