As massive AI and cloud facilities expand nationwide, they increasingly disrupt local quality of life. Key issues include industrial noise (constant hums/vibrations), poor air quality from backup generators, strained local water supplies, and rapidly rising utility bills.
People need to be forewarned that if a data center moves in near you, it might be horrible.
These centers are popping up all over the country, and years after they’ve begun, they are still creating unbearable noise and draining resources.

They are not living up to their expectations.
Data centers must bring their own power, they must reuse their own water, and they must reduce electricity costs for residential and small business customers.
We will slash incentives and protect Texas neighborhoods.
Those are bottom line expectations. pic.twitter.com/jjUEciR2pw

A data center in Wolf County, Kentucky, is not improving residents’ quality of life. They can’t sleep due to the noise, wildlife has disappeared, and home prices have plummeted. The Center moved in without any warning, and the elected representatives don’t care.
You literally can’t make this up

This one is in Virginia.
The Vantage VA2 project was filed in August 2022 with plans to connect to Dominion’s grid. Dominion told Vantage that the grid connection would take roughly 3 years. Nearly 4 years later, it is still operating on gas turbines originally planned as temporary backup.
Neighbors have put mattresses and plexiglass up in their windows to block the noise from this data center in Virginia.
It’s a high pitched whine from the natural gas turbines that power it.
