The European Union is luring in nations to yet another liberty-free “safety” program. This is thanks to the ERSC.
The European Road Safety Charter (ERSC) is a vibrant community of over 4,000 entities and individuals promoted by the European Commission to enhance road safety across the EU and beyond.
They have a catchy slogan, of course: Care, Act, Support, Share.
The European Union has newly mandated features in automobiles. As of Thursday, the European Commission officially expanded its General Safety Regulations to include a host of additional safety requirements for all newly registered vehicles.
Those include advanced emergency braking that can detect cyclists and pedestrians, an advanced driver-distraction warning system, improved forward visibility for the driver, new testing requirements for worn tires, and expanded areas of safety glass to better protect pedestrians in a collision.
It sounds good, but wait.
The driver-distraction system is very intrusive. It uses infrared cameras pointed at the driver to analyze behavior, tracking eye movement, blinking, where you are looking, and even yawning, to spot when your attention drifts. The camera is always on, studying your face. It can be tied to ignition interlocks.
Of course, you have to pay more for the car to get this bureaucratic invasion into your car.
It’s like their net-zero climate demands. They want an unrealistic, almost-zero fatalities, and to do that, they have to control your every move.
“The long-term EU goal is to move as close as possible to zero fatalities in road transport by 2050, which it calls Vision Zero. These new mandatory requirements will help the EU achieve this,” the European Commission said. “Moreover, they will help to better protect pedestrians and cyclists, address crashes caused by driver distraction, and encourage widespread adoption of advanced driver-assistance systems.”
