According to Rolling Stone, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has a history of clandestine engagement with underground hip-hop scenes abroad.
Rolling Stone said there is a conspiracy theory that rap is dead, and unwitting local artists were recruited to build a youth network and provoke anti-government social unrest. Analysts attribute shifts on music charts to streaming metric updates by data providers rather than foreign aid or government funding policies.
I never heard about that conspiracy, but I’ll take Rolling Stone at its word.
For me, rap music is vulgar, misogynistic gang music, and I think it damages the culture. As long as it goes on, I’m happy, but that’s me. Could the radio industry be paid off to put that music on air?
