Allie Beth Stuckey addresses postpartum and motherhood from a religious perspective, but it should work for anyone. She brings up some excellent points about an unhealthy culture. Answers can’t always be found on a psychiatrist’s couch or in blaming everyone else.
Do we blame the child for our frustrations, come at it with a selfish perspective, or enjoy the gift of motherhood? Are some succumbing to the culture of “Mom rage,” “Postpartum rage,” “Touched-out,” and “Overstimulated?” That attitude shifts the difficulties of motherhood onto the child and takes the emphasis off the joys of bringing a child into the world and raising that child.
Stuckey mentions Lindsay’s comments about her son. She said, “he was the most difficult human that she had ever met.” Her son was the first child she strangled. Perhaps it means nothing.
Look for truth.
One of the best takes I’ve heard on the subject. Maybe the very best.
