More than 40% of city kids in grades 3-8 failed math and English in this spring’s state testing. Much of that is because they are migrants from poor nations without any education.
Zohran Mamdani seeks to end mayoral control of the public schools and hand de facto control of the schools to the United Federation of Teachers. Mamdani also openly intends to wage war on the city’s charter schools, where the children succeed.
One union leader told me he’s not there for the children, only the teachers. I think that is common in unions.
