In a recent column for The Free Press, British commentator Douglas Murray explains why he believes Mamdani is targeting Prime Minister Netanyahu. He criticizes Mamdani for using the platform of a major American city to run a personal foreign policy. He noted that a mayor’s job does not include staging international showdowns or dictating actions toward foreign leaders like Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Mamdani knows that. He never thought he could arrest Netanyahu. He’s riling up his base with hate-mongering.
Murray points out that Mamdani’s pledges—such as vowing to have Netanyahu arrested during UN General Assembly visits—are unconstitutional grandstanding meant to appeal to a specific activist base rather than practical local governance.
Mamdani isn’t in New York City to govern it, but rather to destroy it.
Murray views Mamdani’s intense focus on the world’s only Jewish state as a manifestation of ideologically driven identity politics that bypasses local responsibilities in favor of international grievance narratives.
Zohran doesn’t care about truth, and his oath of office was a fraud. He’s picking out the person whom he can best make into the common enemy, to divide and conquer. Sadly, it’s working.
Murray recently said that if “we don’t sort this out,” Britain will turn into Lebanon. He can add New York City to that.

He also argues that New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani focuses heavily on Israel not out of local civic duty, but to engage in political theater and signal alignment with radical anti-Israel movements.
