On Thursday, Speaker Johnson forced the SAVE America Act into the NDAA bill. It puts tremendous pressure on the Senate to pass it once the House sends it over.
Sen. Mike Lee said, “He assured me that the MIRV process will guarantee the two bills are merged and received in the Senate as one bill, with the SAVE America Act in the base text.”
On Monday, Johnson said that he will use a process called “MIRVing,” in which a procedural rule directs separately passed legislation to be packaged together and sent to the Senate.
“We’re going to pass a MIRV, or what’s better known as a ‘merge onto the rule.’ So what that means is, when Republicans vote for the rule, they’ll be voting not just for the NDAA and everything else in there, but they’ll be voting to merge onto that the SAVE America Act we passed back in February,” Johnson said.
The NDAA is a must-pass bill.
The Speaker said it’s done.
Speaker Johnson forces the SAVE America Act into the must-pass NDAA bill. This is huge news for election integrity. Mike Lee just confirmed Johnson is committed to merging the bill so it cannot be easily stripped out in the Senate, putting real pressure on… pic.twitter.com/91wntnsYbn
