Horror High in the Himalayas: A 150′ Tsunami of Water, Mud, & Debris

The horror story of the week, aside from the Lindsey Clancy case, is the glacier collapse of the Langtang Lirung glacier in the Himalayan national park. A massive glacier collapse occurred high in the Himalayas near the Nepal-China border in Tibet on August 26, 2026.

The number of missing people is now up to 1900, and the videos of this are surreal. The horror of it is somewhat muted because you can’t believe what you’re seeing.

There were people in the area from all over the world, as well as the natives. There were many children. About 65 Americans are missing. Some people were there for solitude and meditation. Of all the disaster videos, these have to be among the worst.

The sheer number of people affected within minutes is terrifying. The tsunami of water, mud, and debris from homes and cars as it tears down the mountain leaves one in disbelief. The water reached 150 feet and traveled about 110 mph. It likely triggered catastrophic Nepal-Tibet flash floods and mudslides across the 2026 Nepal floods disaster zone, scientists say.

The BBC reports:

An analysis by the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), an intergovernmental scientific institution, found there could have been “an ice-rock avalanche originating from a high-altitude area”.

This caused a “large volume of ice and rock debris” to enter the Lende Khola, a tributary of the Bhote Koshi river, which in turn generated a sudden surge in the river carrying water, sediment and large boulders downstream.

The collapse heavily affected communities across northern Nepal’s Rasuwa district and parts of the Tibet Autonomous Region in China.
