Iran said Saturday that the Strait of Hormuz is closed, according to Iranian state media, citing violations of the ceasefire after continued deadly Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon overnight. The IDF said they struck first.

Iran’s top joint military command said that the Strait of Hormuz, which was reopening as part of the U.S.-Iran deal signed this week, will stay closed, the semi-official Mehr news agency said.

It said the closure was the “first step” in response to what was described as ‌breaches of commitments by the U.S. and Israel.

Iran and the U.S. have both shown frustration with Israel continuing to strike Lebanon despite the deal signed this week.

Early Saturday, Israeli strikes killed at least 16 people, including two children, according to Lebanese civil defense and media, one day after the U.S. said Israel and Hezbollah had implemented a fresh ceasefire at President Donald Trump’s request.

Israel Defense Forces reported that Hezbollah launched 50+ projectiles toward IDF soldiers operating in southern Lebanon.

In order to remove threats & in response to Hezbollah’s blatant violations, the IDF struck dozens of Hezbollah terrorist infrastructure sites & terrorists in southern Lebanon throughout the night.

Israel said they will not leave southern Lebanon (home of Hezbollah).
