Country singer Jelly Roll might have destroyed his career. He went from loving Trump when Trump’s poll numbers were high to trashing him in a stand-up routine on Jimmy Kimmel’s show, constantly calling Trump fat. Trump’s not fat.
Benny Johnson noted that Jelly Roll grew his career loving Jesus, Donald Trump, and his beautiful wife. He portrayed himself as an obese redneck who grew up in a household of drug addicts, ended up in prison, and found redemption in Jesus Christ. Since then, he lost all that weight, ditched his beautiful wife, and traded in Donald Trump for a friendship with Jimmy Kimmel. Then he made an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel, telling anti-Trump jokes using Kimmel’s nasty writers. The worst part of his monologue was that the jokes weren’t funny. If they were lighthearted and humorous, people might let it slide. Unfortunately, the jokes were just nasty rants.
Jelly sold himself on authenticity. Face tattoos, prison stories, the whole “I still remember where I came from” act. That now appears to be a fake-out.
He told his fans that if they don’t like what he had to say, then they should stop listening to him. So some are following his advice, perhaps many. Some are Bud Lighting him online.
Kimmel knew he was helping Jelly Roll destroy his career, and he did it anyway. Kimmel is using him. The audience laughed hysterically at the bad jokes. It’s hard to believe these people are real.
