The media ignored a terrorist attack on an LGBT bar in Tucson, Arizona. The narrative didn’t fit. None of the narrative fit the white supremacist label, except for the leftist who murdered 10 Black people in a Tops market in Buffalo.
Because the shooter wasn’t the approved villain. He wasn’t a white Christian nationalist. Ousman Ceesay, 44, is a Muslim immigrant born in The Gambia. He confronted two men in the parking lot and started shooting out of hate.
One of the victims was Cameron Davis Capara. He was a well-known local photographer and left- wing political activist. He spent years documenting pro-Palestine marches, anti-ICE actions, anti-Trump, anti-fascist, and anti-capitalist “No Kings” rallies. The other was Vincent Anthony Siqueiros. Both were murdered in cold blood where they stood. They didn’t even have a fighting chance.
Police didn’t rush out a mugshot. Some coverage danced around the shooter’s background. National cameras never really showed up. No wall-to-wall specials. No Democratic officials lining up at podiums to denounce homophobia and demand action. The story dropped fast.

The gunman who killed two men outside a Tucson gay bar early Monday was a new arrival in Tucson who previously lived in Oklahoma, had no apparent connection with the victims and left a note indicating “hate toward the LGBTQIA+ community,” police and records say.
Ousman Ceesay, 44, was living in an Oklahoma City apartment beginning last December, after having lived with his wife in various residences there in the years following their 2012 marriage in that state, a background report showed. A source close to the homicide investigation told the Star that Ceesay was born in The Gambia, a small West African nation south of Senegal.
Tucson police believe Ceesay had only been in Tucson for a short period before the shootings at about 12:30 a.m. in the parking lot of the North Sixth Avenue bar called Venture-N, Tucson Police Department spokesman Frank Magos said Tuesday.
The two victims, Vincent Anthony Siqueiros, 42, and Cameron Davis Capara, 33, died at the scene Monday morning. Ceesay, who was carrying a note with several LGBTQIA+-associated businesses written on it, died later at a hospital after also shooting himself.
The police determined he acted alone and out of hate. By the way, he’s an Islamist.
Three days ago a gunman opened fire outside Venture-N, a Tucson gay bar. Two men dead. The shooter dead. Police now call it a targeted hate crime. He had a list of LGBTQ businesses on him.
