Mike Johnson Wins Speakership in First Round of House Votes After Two Holdouts Switch

Update: Mike Johnson won on the first ballot after two Republican holdouts switched votes. After a period of discussion, Ralph Norman and Keith Self switched their votes to Johnson. It was technically still the first round since the vote wasn’t called and the second vote was unnecessary. Thomas Massie remained a “Hell, no.”

Update: Mike Johnson appears to have fallen short in the first House vote. He can only lose one vote with a 219-215 majority.

Update: The House vote is taking place now! Democrats are voting for Jeffries. Now, that is a scary thought. One GOP voted for Jordan, another for Donalds, and Massie won’t vote for Johnson. We didn’t catch every vote, but Johnson might not make it.

Democrats are laughing at the Republicans as they stick together.

The colonies demanded a vote, which they did not have the right to do.

The new Congress can’t proceed with any business until they have a Speaker.

Original Story

Reportedly, only Rep. Thomas Massie is voting against Mike Johnson for Speaker. He told Matt Gaetz, “You can pull my fingernails out; you can shove bamboo in them; you can start cutting off my fingers; I am not voting for Mike Johnson.”

Mike Johnson is a serious disappointment. He kept voting for outrageous bills, and he supported the FISA bill. That last bill he tried to cram through at the last minute was an abomination. He keeps breaking promises. However, we can’t afford infighting right now, and Donald Trump wants him.

Any one Republican can blow up a deal. Johnson’s job is impossible.

As for Bob Good not voting for him, he lost. Good was replaced by Rep. Maguire, who will vote for Johnson.

Then there’s this point being made:

Oh GOOD! I was SO worried we wouldn’t end up with a Globalist shill for a speaker! I can see I was worried for nothing. It will be business as usual in the House. The continuing Resolution was a good indicator of Johnson’s commitment to MAGA. The little runt bastard.

So many think that DJT is this big ‘savior’. They are deceived, and deluded. M Johnson is exactly what you say, as such he’s against the people, against America.
Business as usual. Remember the Who song: ‘meet the new boss…same as the old boss’…Many *were* fooled again.

I think the only reason trump said that he’s backing him, for the time being, is that he supposedly listened to him on that last vote, to not pass one version, and to pass a version that trump approved of.

The other thing is, is if not Johnson, Then Who?. It’s like Matt Gaetz said, I wouldn’t even try to run for speaker because I know that I couldn’t get the votes.

Johnson listening to trump on that last big call just might be the best bet for the time being, someone worse is always guaranteed to be there ready and waiting to take that position. We’ve seen much worse.

Here’s the thing you don’t need to be a member of Congress to be Speaker of the House and honestly until the kerfuffle over H1B visas it could have been Elon or Vivek and either one would have been light-years better than Johnson though I guess the other issue there is you’d have to have Trump give the go-ahead because they are his people and it is disappointing that he supported both Johnson and H1Bs

It’s only temporary, you can bank on it. There are 9 GOP that voted for Johnson this round that have stated that they did it with the intentions of replacing him at better time in the future, lets be real here people and resident trolls.

It’s not the opportune time to be in speaker battle. It’s just simple math.
