Liberal TDS victim Peter Zeihan doesn’t think the Democratic Party has much of a future if they have to win by the numbers. They need a big issue.
In the analysis, Zeihan reviews the changes in society that have affected the party over the decades. He said three things have combined to make it impossible to survive in its current form. I don’t agree with everything he is saying, but see what you think.
The Threats to Democrat Survival
First, Zeihan says those coastal-educated, urban liberal elites are not as united as one might think. Their ideas don’t resonate with most Americans because most Americans don’t own six figures, and most haven’t gone to graduate school. Protesting for trans rights doesn’t resonate with most of the country.
Secondly, while race is a major identifying fact of being an American, it’s not the only one. Democrats made the mistake of betting on Hispanics. However, as Hispanics became wealthier, Zeihan claims it put them more into the Republican camp. Additionally, he said Hispanics have the skill sets for the new industrial revolution we are undergoing. That makes tax rates more important to them than racial equality, he says.
Third, he says, culturally, Democrats didn’t bet on immigrants’ religiosity. For example, he said many Hispanic immigrants and Nigerian immigrants are likely to be far more socially conservative.
This results in electoral toss-ups.
Democrats are counting on the hatred of Donald Trump to win, but that is not enough.
Personally, I think if they had a platform that helps Americans instead of a platform of hate, ad hominem attacks, and communism, they could win more elections.
Additionally, embracing the failed, deadly ideology of communism seems a step in the wrong direction.
