The censors are back with a vengeance, Michael Schellenberger reports. This successful lawfare could cost Meta and Musk tens of billions of dollars for failing to censor enough.
Meta is looking at a $219 billion fine. The reason? For not doing more to censor the free and legal speech of American citizens, including Joe Rogan. They also squeezed in the sale of New Mexicans’ data to third parties, but that wasn’t what they were after. A Santa Fe jury found Meta liable for deceiving New Mexicans after Meta promised more censorship.
Jurors found Meta willfully violated New Mexico’s Unfair Practices Act 43,899,720 times. They allegedly misled users about their data, misinformation, hate speech, and more. It’s the inclusion of misinformation and hate speech we should be concerned about.

The Story of the Santa Fe Lawfare
Santa Fe is using an EU censorship model to sue Meta. It is under the guise of Meta harming children. Prosecutors want billions from the platform CEOs, not because they care about New Mexicans, but because they want to censor Americans.
Attorney General Raúl Torrez says the total could be $219 billion, with up to $76 billion of that for the 15,293,184 alleged violations in the three speech categories. The verdict comes amid bipartisan demands for AI regulation and calls from governments in the UK, Europe, Australia, and other nations for greater government censorship of legal speech online.
“They’re using this litigation to achieve indirectly what they could not achieve directly through government censorship,” Jonathan Turley, a George Washington University law professor, told Public. “Many people in the United States are trying to duplicate [the EU censorship] effort and use the judiciary as opposed to the executive branch to achieve the same goals.” The law allows a judge to fine Meta up to $5,000 per violation.
As always, Barack Obama, who built the censorship industrial complex, is behind the movement in a significant way.
“We’re going to have to create new town squares,” threatened Obama, “where everybody is having a common dialogue with certain rules. And that becomes even more important as technology accelerates and AI and deepfakes and all kinds of nonsense is coming.”
Obama has a plan to address the “information bubbles” Americans are in:

And in two weeks, a new Aaron Sorkin film will portray Mark Zuckerberg as a villain for supporting free speech and falsely suggest that the censorship being demanded is to protect children.
As they rant about not censoring enough, they are manipulating the public against Meta.
In the trailer, Zuckerberg says, “People can post what they want. We’re not the ref. We’re the public square.” To which a character played by stand-up comic Bill Burr says, “Are you crazy? You’re like a crossing guard standing in front of a school, but you’re not doing anything with your arms, so the cars are just plowing down the children.”
This movie will be out at the same time as a movie by liberal filmmaker Alex Gibney, “Musk,” which includes the allegation that Elon Musk stole the 2024 election for Trump using space lasers, which fact-checkers had dismissed as a preposterous conspiracy theory in November 2020, shortly after Democrats on Meta’s X-like Threads app spread it.
Zuckerberg’s problem is that he promised free speech, took it away, and has now lost many of his strongest supporters, including Sentinel.
“But the underlying problem is that Zuckerberg and Meta, starting in December 2016, embraced demands from Democrats and others on the left to censor their political enemies. “Some of Meta’s conflicting messages came back to haunt the company in this litigation,” said Professor Turley.
Facebook launched “third-party fact-checking” in December 2016. And its CEO confessed to under-censoring Americans. “We didn’t take a broad enough view of our responsibility, and that was a big mistake,” said Zuckerberg to the Senate in April 2018. They set themselves up.
The Musk hit movie is a complete lie, but people will believe it and the hardcore left is counting on it.
The message they are sending is: do as we say, or we will destroy you.
