The censorship industrial complex is going on the offensive. New legislation being field-tested in Australia would give the government the power to run AI bot networks, aka sock puppets, apparently to secretly influence and manipulate online debates.
If they can’t shut us all down, they will manipulate us.
The bill expressly allows the government to create what it calls “sock puppet identities.” A “sock puppet” identity is a fictitious online persona created to conceal a user’s real identity, often for research, investigation, or strategic purposes, but it can also be misused for deception. In this case, it will be used to manipulate debates and control opinions.
The bill is sold as a means to protect children. But it can quickly become a pretext for control. This is much worse than flock cameras.
More concerning, the provision allows these state-created accounts to generate material using artificial intelligence.
Under Section 203, it authorizes, without limitations, the use of sock puppet identities by the commissioner to generate material using an online service, including for means of artificial intelligence, to the extent that the production, dissemination, or possession of that material is not an offense against the law of the commonwealth, a state, or a territory.
This particular clause moves well beyond passive observation into active influence. The government is nowhere clear about what it intends to do with these new powers, and the lack of clear limits on potential uses leaves this an open-ended question.
It is also spying.

As Mike Benz reported, this plan is the one pushed by Cass Sunstein. He is the husband of Samantha Power, the former chief of the corrupt USAID. Sunstein claimed it was to stop conspiracy theories. However, he and his wife are hard left and generate false information because of their arrogance and belief systems. Sunstein is the kook who wants animals to have lawyers.
