Had a positive interview with Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, who has been nominated for the Senate-confirmed job by @POTUS. He committed to further briefing on the tax audit issue involving President Trump and his family. I will not make a decision on confirmation until after that briefing and completion of his hearing before the committee, @SenJudiciaryGOP
The tax audit issue stems from a lawsuit President Trump filed after the IRS leaked his returns, which were an attempt to keep him from becoming president. There wasn’t much to criticize there, but it was illegal.
Trump, his sons, and the Trump Organization sued the IRS and the Treasury for $10 billion, alleging that the IRS and the Treasury failed to protect his confidential tax records after an IRS contractor leaked them.
The Trump family dropped the lawsuit as part of a settlement that permanently barred the IRS from auditing the past tax returns of Donald Trump, his family, trusts, and affiliated companies.
The settlement agreement also established a nearly $1.8 billion fund to compensate individuals claiming they were victims of government “weaponization or lawfare”.
Democrats and Senate RINOs oppose any settlement fund. They falsely claim the fund would pay off people who were violent on J6. However, Todd Blanche made it clear that the applicants would be carefully screened and those who were violent would be ineligible. For now, the settlement fund is dead.
Thank you, Texans, for kicking this RINO out of the Senate. He can’t leave fast enough.
