War is guaranteed mutual destruction, and presidents before Donald Trump hoped to find a better way. The Golden Dome is that way. It will render nuclear weapons useless.
When Reagan proposed the idea, which he called Star Wars, Democrats believed a defensive system would cause more wars. President Ronald Reagan’s “Star Wars” program, officially known as the Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI), was a proposed space-based missile defense system designed to protect the United States from Soviet nuclear attack.
It was brilliant, but public opinion turned against it. It was canceled in 1993 after roughly $30 billion in research because the administration and the media concluded the futuristic technology was too ambitious and expensive to build.
Additionally, the Anti-Ballistic Missile (ABM) Treaty stood in the way. It was a 1972 arms control agreement between the United States and the Soviet Union that limited each nation to one (originally two) deployment areas for defending against ballistic missiles. The treaty prevented us from building a defense system. President George W. Bush wisely withdrew us from that treaty.
Defensive Warfare
President Trump is building up our weapons systems. We now have weapons in space. It is a deterrent, meant to keep the United States safe and, hopefully, protect Canada. Its purpose is to detect and destroy nuclear and other strikes.
The Golden Dome will protect the United States in ways we are not currently protected. The Golden Dome for America is a planned multi-layered missile defense shield designed to protect the United States from long-range ballistic and hypersonic weapons.
The US will use satellites and sensors to constantly scan for missile launches. Rapid-response interceptors in orbit or near-Earth will be ready to engage targets quickly. And weapons to shoot down threats. AI-driven systems will ensure precision.
Eventually, cheap laser beams will knock down drones. The new ships will be able to handle these more powerful weapons.
The war in Iran seems unfortunate, but we don’t know what the administration knows about the threat and how imminent it was. However, President Trump is pushing the United States into defensive warfare. There will be no benefits to enemies attacking the USA, and hopefully Canada, because we will be isolated again in many ways. It is a much better way to deal with the enemy than blowing them up.
Unfortunately, we spent four years with open borders and invited the enemy in, which is another problem.
President Trump is following the vision of Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan, who wanted to secure the USA, so we never had to worry about these enemies blowing us up.
