Ali Asgar Alibhai [Ali Asgar Hussamuddin Alibhai] was arrested at the pro-Hamas encampment at the University of Texas at Dallas (UT Dallas) in May 2024.
Alibhai’s activism occurred during Israel’s war against Hamas, which Israel launched after the October 7, 2023, terror attacks when Hamas murdered nearly 1,200 Israelis, injured thousands, and kidnapped hundreds.
On May 2, 2024, FOX4 KDFW reported that Ali Asgar Alibhai was arrested and charged with “misdemeanor criminal trespassing for setting up tents and barricades on the campus” at the UT Dallas encampment, in violation of school policy.
The Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) chapter at UT Dallas (SJP UTD) helped organize the encampment
The SJP is tied to Hamas. Alibhai also promotes BDS.
The Lawsuit
He is now suing school administrators and local law enforcement after he said his constitutional rights were violated and he was discriminated against at an on-campus protest last year.
In a federal civil rights suit, assistant professor Ali Asgar Alibhai alleged that university officials and officers “punished” him when he was among 20 people arrested at a student-led demonstration last year in support of Palestinians amid the ongoing war in Gaza. Alibhai says he was observing and recording the protest at the time of his arrest.
That’s what Mahmoud Khalil claims he was doing at Columbia University. We should look to see if this is a pattern.
The suit, first reported by UTD student newspaper The Retrograde, claims Richard Benson, university president at the time, imposed retaliatory restrictions on professors and treated minority faculty members harsher than white faculty members.
He claimed that it was a peaceful protest. However, it is inappropriate to set up an illegal encampment. It is not peaceful. Resisting arrest is not peaceful.
Ali Asgar claims his arrest and subsequent punishments violated his 1st and 4th Amendment rights. He also claimed the police physically abused him, and he did nothing wrong.
Why is a foreigner who attends radical communist/Hamas events and gets arrested allowed to teach at our university, or even remain in the country? He is a guest here. We have too many radical communists and Islamists here.
