A federal grand jury indicted former national security adviser John Bolton for mishandling of classified documents. The grand jury convened on Wednesday to consider the charges against Bolton two months after the FBI raided his Maryland home and found “highly sensitive national security information.”

The 26-page indictment charges Bolton with 18 counts related to the retention and transmission of national defense information.

The search warrant showed there were travel memo documents with pages labeled “secret” as well as “confidential documents” regarding the “US mission to the United States,” “US Government Strategic Communications Plan,” and “weapons of mass destruction.”

It sounds bad. 18 counts!

This is the case that the prosecutors felt strongly should go to trial. It’s a case that began years ago.

Ironically, when Jack Smith was trying to get a conviction against Trump for taking documents he was allowed to declassify and take, John Bolton was cheering for Smith.

READ THE INDICTMENT

He knew he had secret documents, and should have kept a low profile. He faces years in prison.

“Bolton, at one point, was discovered having an AOL email account… he was writing notes to himself… This is a very serious national security case.”

“We also know from a recent search, just two months ago, that there were many documents, including ones labeled as about weapons of mass destruction, about allied strikes, things that had markings on them that said classified secret.”

This is great news that we have been anticipating for a long time. The indictment could not happen to a better person. When I served in the military and when I worked for government contractors, my clearances were terminated at the ends of my work. Why are former government “celebrities” allowed to retain clearances? I understand that former Presidents should… Read more »

What can be the explanation for Bolton to possess classified documents, especially after Trump won? Did he think he was untouchable and protected? Or could he not control an urge to have them?

But aside from that, I think the DOJ has electronic records, so did not require finding physical documents. Having physical documents makes the case tight.

Something he could show his buddies? He thinks he has a right to them? Mental incompetence? Wants to feel “important?”

I don t understand why writing notes to himself trough AOL email was a problem ?

I am not defending Bolton, I simply don t get how that is wrong, unless they mean those notes included top secret information ?

AOL mail is not secure. Any transmission of government information must be done through a secure government server.

Hellary needs to understand this. Perhaps she should be indicted next? Why does wine-soaked trailer trash like her always seem to skate when the rest of us would face prison for doing the same. I’m not just talking either, as I once held a top secret security clearance while a US Navy civilian Program manager.
