Secretary of War Pete Hegseth fired three generals. The only explanation given was that the administration wants generals more in line with their vision. The Generals who were fired were Gen. David Hodne, head of Transformation and Training Command; Maj. Gen. William Green Jr., chief of the Chaplain Corps; and, previously, Army Chief of Staff Randy George.
As for the Chief of the Chaplain Corps, comments were made that instead of self-help groups, they want more God in the Corps. Randy George, Joe Biden’s senior military aide, was set to retire next year.
It happens under every president. Here is an incomplete list.
- Lincoln fired Generals George B. McClellan, Ambrose Burnside, Joseph Hooker, John Pope, Irvin McDowell, and John C. Frémont.
- FDR fired Admiral Husband E. Kimmel and General Walter Short.
- Truman terminated General Douglas MacArthur’s employment.
- Obama fired General David McKiernan, General Stanley McChrystal, Rear Admiral Charles Gaouette, and General Petraeus had to resign.
