American counterterrorism experts are on high alert as they warn that sleeper cells could activate on U.S. soil in the wake of the joint U.S.-Israel strikes on Iran.
As Iran launched a wave of counterstrikes, attacking countries in the Gulf region, analysts warn that the war may not be contained to the Middle East, as there is potential for possible retaliation from Iran-linked operatives or sympathizers in the domestic U.S.
Federal and local law enforcement have also boosted on-the-ground security in dozens of major U.S. cities as a precaution, although there are no credible threats as of now.
In New York, the NYPD is stepping up patrols and has urged New Yorkers to stay vigilant amid ongoing security concerns following Saturday’s joint attack on Iran.
NYPD Counterterrorism Deputy Commissioner Rebecca Weiner told CBS that the threat level to the city increases during conflicts such as this in the Middle East, and that the primary threats include lone actors.
Chris Swecker, a former assistant FBI director, told Fox News that the time for a terror cell to act is “now.”

Why Iran and Why Now?
Clearly, their navy, terror capacity, and nuclear capacity are the targets in Iran. President Trump felt we should have gone into Iran in the Carter era. Trump comes from an era where Iran began its reign of terror. For eleven years, President Trump said Iran could never have a nuclear weapon. He has been very consistent.
Trump’s predecessors felt the same way.
Donald Trump’s predecessors had the same idea, but failed in their approach. Trump believes only the use of force will work, and that is obviously true. Hillary felt the same way until Donald Trump did it.
Trump tried to negotiate and would have been happier if they negotiated in good faith. It wasn’t in the cards.
Why now? And Trump was not willing to leave this unfinished business. It might not work. However, the answer as to why and why now is clear.
