Pakistani Muslims compromised 30 to 80 Democrats’ congressional computers for 12 years. They stored data in an off-site server, destroyed evidence, tried to flee with money illicitly obtained. They were paid $5 million to do it and we may never know the extent of the breach.
Politico reported the “House staffers are accused of stealing equipment from members’ offices without their knowledge and committing serious, potentially illegal, violations on the House IT network.”
Court documents in the County of Fairfax, Virginia indicate that Abid Awan is accused of unlawfully accessing Congress’ computer networks, and now his stepmother said he wiretapped her and used his position to threaten her violently in order to steal cash.
Abid is one of six Awans who were hired and who are under suspicion.
Soon after Imran Awan joined the staff of Florida Democratic Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz in 2005, his brothers Abid and Jamal, his wife Hina, and his brother’s wife Natalia all appeared on other members’ payrolls, supposedly as IT administrators. His best friend Rao Abbas landed on the payroll too.
Rao had been fired from McDonald’s and that was the whole of his resume. One of the wives just showed up for work without going through any process at all.
Jamal was 20 years of age when hired at nearly $160,000 a year, three times the normal salary for House IT techs. All were paid exorbitantly. Imran Awan was being paid $165,130 and Abid Awan grossed $164,980 per annum. Normally, IT techs are paid $55,000 a year.
Imran has a long-term relationship with Representatives Meeks, Becerra and Wasserman-Schultz.
