Another Leak! FBI Director Comey Asks DoJ to Publicly Denounce Trump’s Wiretapping Accusations

FBI Director Comey reportedly asked the DoJ to reject claims that Barack Obama ordered the sting on Trump Tower. This leak came from the NY Times. Why can’t Comey make the public denial, why put Sessions in that position?

The fact that Jim Comey decided to leak this doesn’t instill a sense of trust or confidence. Is that how our intelligence officials operate now? They leak everything?

The NY Times reported:

…it “would be a remarkable rebuke of a sitting president, putting the nation’s top law enforcement officials in the position of questioning the truthfulness of the government’s top leader” and adds that the situation “underscores the high stakes of what the president and his aides have unleashed by accusing the former president of a conspiracy to undermine Mr. Trump’s young administration.”

Furthermore, it is unclear who at the DOJ would issue such as statement, “even if it wanted to one”, as Trump’s close ally, AG Jeff Sessions has recused himself from any Trump-Russia investigation. As the NYT points out, “there are few senior politically appointed officials at the Justice Department who can make the decision to release a statement, the officials said. Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself on Thursday from all matters related to the federal investigation into connections between Mr. Trump, his associates and Russia.”

A statement like this would be a disaster for the Trump presidency in all likelihood. It would add fodder to the Democrats’ accusations that Trump colluded with the Russian government.

With Hillary Clinton, Jim Comey made a public statement, but in Trump’s case, Comey decided to leak.

No word from the DoJ. Attorney General Jeff Sessions, Senior Counselor Steve Bannon and President Trump huddled in meetings this weekend.

The FBI needs to release the FISA warrants so we can see what is going on. No more selective leaks.

HeatSt was the source for the leaks about the spying by the FBI during the campaign. The editor Lousie Mensch despises Donald Trump.

HeatSt reported on November 7th that the FBI requested the warrants:

Two separate sources with links to the counter-intelligence community have confirmed to Heat Street that the FBI sought, and was granted, a FISA court warrant in October, giving counter-intelligence permission to examine the activities of ‘U.S. persons’ in Donald Trump’s campaign with ties to Russia.

The FBI was mentioned eleven times in the article, alleged to have a concern about so-called Trump campaign adviser Carter Page’s many contacts with Russians. Page has never met with Donald Trump.

Mensch’s article was intended to prove Donald Trump was colluding with Russia to win the election.

Rumors of the FISA warrant first surfaced publicly on October 12th, shortly before the election.

James Clapper told Chuck Todd on Meet the Press Sunday that there was no FISA application which doesn’t mean the FBI didnt seek a Title III wiretap application. Clapper, however, is a known liar.

It is possible that Comey could have extensive knowledge of what went on and he could be protecting information he wants concealed. For example, the FBI could have gone beyond the limits of the warrant. The FBI was spying on a presidential candidate during the height of the election.

We’ll have to wait and see how this unfolds.

Comey has been described by some as very political. It’s hard to know what to make of him.

If FBI Director Comey simply wants to protect the FBI’s reputation, he might begin by resigning. He’s been reviled by two parties and trust in him and the Department is at a low. He chose Andrew McCabe as his second and McCabe’s wife ran for Congress as a Democrat, taking most of her campaign funds from Hillary Clinton allies.

Time for a change.

Every department needs gutting. A president can’t operate without loyal agencies.

Former U.N. ambassador John Bolton agrees, it’s time to go.
