John McCain’s Trashing Trump Again, Over Transgenders

The Hill reports that Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) decried the President’s plans to push transgender people from the military following new guidance from President Trump.

Of course  he did, he’s a neverTrumper and a RINO. What McCain doesn’t understand is it’s about military readiness.

McCain, as the Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Sommittee said, “it would be a step in the wrong direction to force currently serving transgender individuals to leave the military solely on the basis of their gender identity rather than medical and readiness standards that should always be at the heart of Department of Defense personnel policy.”

“The Pentagon’s ongoing study on this issue should be completed before any decisions are made with regard to accession. The Senate Armed Services Committee will continue to conduct oversight on this important issue,” McCain added.

The President isn’t pushing out transgenders already in the service. He is leaving it up to the secretary of defense.

Trump signed a memo Friday instructing the Defense Department to stop accepting transgender individuals who want to enlist in the military, while instructing Defense Secretary James Mattis to explore how to handle those currently in the armed forces.

The memo requests the Pentagon develop a plan to implement the ban by February 2018, to be put in place the following month. Trump first announced the ban in a tweet last month.

“In President Trump’s judgment, the previous administration failed to identify a sufficient basis to conclude that terminating the DOD and DHS long-standing policy and practice would not hinder military effectiveness or lethality, disrupt unit cohesion, tax military resources, etc.,” an official told reporters about Trump’s memo.

The President basically grandfathered in those transgenders currently in the service.

The military is not the place for social engineering experimentation. The transitioning is very expensive and another self-inflicted and unnecessary burden on the military.

The new policy allows the Secretary of Defense to take whatever steps deemed necessary to promote military readiness and unit cohesion, and to deal with costs of transgender troops. It’s not about prejudice, it’s about military readiness.
