Obese Petitioner Wants Wide Airline Seats

Jae’lynn Chaney from Vancouver, Washington, has initiated a petition on Change.org demanding that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) implement regulations to accommodate plus-sized passengers better. Her campaign highlights the reduction in airplane seat sizes over the years, which she claims now average around 16 inches in width.

It would be great to have larger seats, but airlines reduced the size due to financial difficulties.

Some say most obese people are obese through their own fault, and they should pay for two seats when they travel.

I have traveled with obese passengers when seats were wide, and they still overlapped. I’m not sure this would solve their problem. Many need two seats.

What do you think? Is the airline to blame, or the obese people?

Of course the airlines are to blame for obese. It is those large rich expensive meals they serve to all their customers on each flight… .

I’m all for a big and tall airline rate. For sake of argument why should the majority subsidize the needs of the minority? If I mail a card or letter I use one stamp up to 1oz. If I mail a card or letter that’s 1.5oz I pay for the extra weight. Otherwise it won’t be long before people demand a religious exemption for writing letters using heavy parchment paper.

Airline coach seats come in one size, so if B.I.G. people need more space I’m all for them paying for two adjoining seats and they should expect to pay no less. However if it’s true airlines are buying planes with smaller seats every year then we need a standardized seat regulation for both weight and butt width. Having said this, as good Americans we should not expect the system to conform to our poor choices in lieu of a genuine handicap.

Just offer to slice the fat off her gigantic @$$ when she boards the plane. Oh yeah, better put some extra air in the plane’s tires too.

It is discrimination because airlines are not responsible for your fat @ss and bad eating habits. If you need more than one seat take a buss and sit in the bench seat in the back of the bus. Airlines need to make a profit to stay in business and they’re not going to throw that profit out the window just because you expect to be catered too because of your poor physical health and inability to SHUT YOUR GD MOUTH !!!

Imagine being stuck in the seat next to that fat bastard and there is nowhere else to move to. We should put warning labels on forks and spoons now?
