Possibly 294 Employees to Remain Out of 10,000 USAID Workers

Reportedly, the Trump administration plans to retain only about 294 of the more than 10,000 to 14,000 employees worldwide at the US Agency for International Development (USAID). Three anonymous sources shared the plans with the New York Times.

Allegedly, the cuts were shared with agency leaders on a call on Thursday.

Those who will stay are those who specialize in health and humanitarian assistance. About 800 grants and contracts awarded through USAID were being canceled.

The State Department has not responded. This is occurring as the agency’s direct hires were all put on leave. Almost all contractors will see their work orders terminated. Foreign service officers will have 30 days to return to the United States.

One can easily see where this is headed. The agency is returning to what it was supposed to be: a humanitarian and health organization for people abroad. The slush fund and the money laundering are over. This is just one agency that has been used in this way for decades.

This is another con job by Republicans, namely Massie. The bill does Not abolish USAID. The “title” may say such but the enforcement text Only zeroes out the funds, which another Congress could add back in. This is no different than the “abolishing” of Obamacare by Ryan. All that did was “amend” the Act. The more we see of the Republicans the more we learn they are just as duplicitous as Democrats.

We need to return to the trust people had in the government when JFK started USAID to aid other peoples in development. Here are two examples of such work by a self-financed NGO and a self-financed dedicated individual. In the 1950’s my father-n-law and his co-workers helped import top grade coffee plants, and top grade of beef breeding stock into the highlands of the Enga Province of what is called PNG. providing both need protein and economic opportunities for the people. An Australian friend of mine, with his own money built a school system in Laos that still benefits many.
Don’t destroy USAID, but get it involved in Kennedy’s vision again.
Give it patriotic management.

I just learned that Trump told GSA – the general services administration – to stop all contracts with the Media.

I did not know about the GSA, so I googled it and every result says they manage buildings for the government.

Pardon my ignorance, but I don t understand why such an agency, that manages buildings, has any contracts with the media.

If anyone can ” enlighten” me, please go right ahead because I am a bit confused.

I’m with you on that one. There seems to be an exorbitant number of useless government agencies that I didn’t know existed. Government definitely needs to be streamlined and in a big way.

As someone whose taxes unlawfully funded this crap, I’m with Massie! Abolish USAID entirely. Furthermore, there needs to be legal action taken. I’m not a lawyer, but there has to be legal repercussions taken against those who brought our constitutional republic to the brink of collapse.
