Employment Security Department (ESD) Commissioner Suzi LeVine exits ESD mired in a crisis that stems from the widespread unemployment insurance claims fraud. Questions remain about how the ESD may have left its computer systems susceptible to the fraud.
The fraud left thousands of unemployed people locked out of their state accounts.
The fraud has triggered ongoing criminal investigations, a handful of arrests and even a minor guilty plea. The ESD claims it has recovered $346 million, though those figures have not been verified and efforts are ongoing.
“I have loved every minute of my job here at ESD, even the ones that have been the most difficult,” LeVine said in an ESD news release announcing her departure.
