A police officer in Memphis, Tennessee, was shot and killed when officers responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle early Friday morning, police said.

Two other officers were shot, but one was treated at the scene and is now in stable condition. The other is recovering in the hospital.

Officer McKinney was married.

The slain officer was identified as Joseph McKinney, who had been with the police department for about three years.

The slain suspect was identified as an 18-year-old man. The 17-year-old suspect is in critical condition.

The shooting unfolded when officers responded to the suspicious vehicle call at around 2 a.m., Davis said. The occupants of the vehicle opened fire on the officers when they approached, Davis said.

Gun-Toting Criminal Released Without Bond

The 18-year-old suspect was arrested last month on auto theft charges and released without bond, Davis said. He stole two vehicles and had a programming device on him that he used to steal cars. He was already a career criminal. When he was arrested in March, the suspect had an illegally modified semiautomatic weapon, Davis said.

He retrofitted a Glock and converted it into a fully automatic gun. He clearly meant business. Why was he released?

He was in a stolen vehicle when he engaged in a gun battle and subsequently died. The 18-year-old wasn’t only a car thief. He was prepared to use a gun to murder people.

Now, an officer is dead.

Democrats should stop complaining about guns when they let gun criminals out without bond.

Why are most Democrat cities hellholes?

Mayor Young Is Misguided

Mayor Paul Young said, “We need a community call to action,” describing the incident as a “senseless act of violence.”

“We know that we as a community have to do more to hold violent offenders accountable for their actions, even our young people…we have to make sure we are pressing for accountability. We want to protect our community; our young people are depending on us to get this right,” Young added.

What is he talking about? Mayor Young needs to address the ‘no bail reform.’ That dead 18-year-old should still be in prison.
