Way back about 1986 my brother, who was a Lieutenant in the Coast Guard had set up an interview with a Navy Lieutenant Commander to teach specific classes for military officers. After the interview, which went rather well, we began just talking. During the conversation, at one point he began talking about what was happening in Washington. It was at this time he got a pensive tone of voice and said, “I can see this country slowly turning into a third-world country.” So, what has been happening in the past few years has been going on little-by-little for many decades. The politicians have not been kind to the country that has given them so many opportunities to advance themselves. Harry Truman noted: “Show me a man wo gets rich by being a politician and I’ll show you a crook.” Truman was also a strong advocate of term limits. Being an elected official means you are in service of the electorate. But that isn’t and hasn’t been what holding an elected office means any more.
