Criminals use this tactic frequently.
The military uses this tactic almost constantly.
Sports teams use this tactic often.
Your children will use this tactic almost every chance they get.
And politicians are using this tactic right now – BIG TIME!
It’s basically “distraction”, and here’s how it works.
Criminals will create a fake incident on the “other end of town” to trick law enforcement into sending most of its manpower, thus allowing for a real crime to take place where the police have just vacated. Bank robberies are probably the most famous crime to utilize the distraction tactic.
Law enforcement itself has been known to use distraction via loud, flash grenades and other fake actions to flush criminals out of hiding…and it works, too.
The military realized long ago that distraction can cause the enemy to make disastrous counter-moves, allowing for total success of the main objective. Can you say “D-Day”? Probably the most famous use of distraction in the history of mankind, although the Trojan Horse would rank right up there with the best of ‘em.
Sports teams us distraction – often called “misdirection” – in a variety of ways to lure the other team into making a serious mistake, allowing for success by the misdirecting team. Any fake is a form of misdirection and it’s a very useful tool in the arsenal.
I won’t go into great detail as to how your children us distraction as a ploy to getting their way. I think you’ve probably experienced all of them!
Now, about those politicians.
I’ve monitored politics since the Truman administration and what I’m witnessing right now is the most blatant use of distraction I’ve ever seen in the political theater. One political party is doing absolutely everything possible to distract the electorate from giving serious thought to the nation’s problem(s). That political party is the one that features a donkey on its logo.
Day after day, hour after hour, the Democrat Party national committee has exhausted itself firing off one distraction after another in hopes you’ll ignore the really serious issues and focus instead on the distractions they’re offering. It reminds me of flak – the indiscriminate firing of munitions into the air in hopes that an airplane will fly into it, thus bringing it down.
My good friend, Antonia F. Branco, created an absolutely perfect political cartoon that will give you an even better idea of what distraction is all about.

Republican Mitt Romney has made his position on President Barack Obama’s birthplace abundantly clear. He believes Obama was born in the United States and, therefore, is qualified by birth to be president. But the split second Romney utters a joke at that topic, the entire Democrat superstructure goes into hysterics, trying desperately to create an issue, thus distracting the electorate once again.
It’s not working.
Based on the reactions of Americans, you fooled us once but you’re not going to do it again, and there’s no greater example of that distraction/misdirection than “we have to pass Obamacare to find out what’s in it”. Somehow it passed and today the United States is on the brink of financial ruin because of this, and a wide variety of other political maneuvers executed by Barack Obama and his far left-wing agents of Marxist Socialism.
The countdown to Election Day is on. Americans won’t be fooled again.
