Eighteen years to the day before James DiMaggio murdered Christine and Ethan Anderson and kidnapped 16-year old Hannah Anderson, James’ father, also named James tried to talk his ex-girlfriend’s 16-year old daughter and a classmate of his son’s into running away with him.
When she refused, he threatened to kill her, her sister, and her boyfriend. Using the bathroom as an excuse, she was able to get away. He fled. Six years later he committed suicide.
His son, James DiMaggio Jr committed an eerily similar crime.
DiMaggio was spotted with Hannah Anderson by four riders on horseback 1,000 miles from the area of abduction in a remote area of wilderness in Utah.
The riders said Hannah did not appear to be held against her will and seemingly tried to hide her face. They also said she appeared scared, especially when he put his arm around her waist. Another rider said she appeared to be wearing pajama bottoms.
She was being kept in a small tent.
It wasn’t until they got home and saw the Amber Alert that they realized who Hannah was.
The FBI found their campsite by helicopter and then trekked to the site. When DiMaggio and Hannah were separated, the FBI made their move. It is not known how the shooting went down but there will be an investigation.
Hannah’s friends said DiMaggio admitted he had a crush on Hannah but Hannah didn’t like being alone with DiMaggio.
