10,000 Jobs & Nearly Half Our Fruits & Vegetables Sacrificed to the Smelt

This massive agricultural cut back has resulted in a loss of more than 10,000 farm jobs and a regional unemployment of 15.%! One half of America’s fruits and vegetables are produced in this region! Well, not any more!

Ok, here we go again –

Another one of those “you won’t believe this one” type stories! It happened in California – where else? I have trouble even talking about this one without breaking into laughter or tears!

So, let’s start again!

The federal government has placed water restrictions, (keep reading) on the amount of water that the San Joaquin-Sacramento River Delta’s water districts  can divert to the central valley’s farmers and residents BECAUSE (now, take your time to absorb this one!) THEY DO NOT PROTECT THE THREE-INCH DELTA SMELT!!!

First of all, “What the hell is a smelt?

For all of you environmentalists who can now sleep at night knowing that these cute little fish are safe and sound living in their river paradise, I just want to point out one “unimportant” consequence of your philanthropic, life-long quest.

This year, because of these federal regulations and restrictions, farmers will receive only 30% of their contractual water allowance!

Do you believe this one!

Want the update?

In 2010, the water districts sued the “Fish and Wildlife Service.” The farmers won! But that didn’t stop the “National Resources Defense Council” Of course , they appealed! We are still waiting for that decision!

The water restrictions will remain indefinitely!

Some sanity did appear. California GOP Congressman, Devin Nunes, introduced a bill which would allow the same amount of “pumped water” to the farmers as the amount that the Congress approved in 1992, the year before the environmentalists started this insanity.

But, don’t hold your breath! In stepped two of my “favorites,” Senators Feinstein and Boxer. They jumped into action and this week (ready for this one!). They issued a statement calling for “consensus-based solutions that respect the interests of all stakeholders.”

I’m nauseous!!! The smelts have become stakeholders!

It has come to my attention recently that several of my “new” readers question the authenticity of some of my “rants.” Today’s rant is another of those “I can’t believe it” stories!

ALL of my topics are found in reputable newspapers like the Wall Street Journal (like today’s article) or other reputable newspapers or magazines – none just off the Internet!

[Editor’s Note: I verify all rants with my own research!]
