On Monday, April 11, the New York Assembly Committee on Codes will consider an onerous gun control bill which, if passed, would effectively ban the sale of semi-automatic handguns in the Empire State. The bill, Assembly Bill 11571157, sponsored by Assemblywoman Michelle Schimel (D-16), would require semi-automatic pistols manufactured or delivered to any licensed dealer and offered for sale in New York be capable of micro-stamping a series of unique identifiers on the cartridge case when the gun is fired.

On Tuesday, April 12, Senate Bill 1003A is scheduled to be heard by the state Senate Committee on Codes. S1003A1003, sponsored by state Senator José Peralta (D-13), would require the judge in a criminal proceeding or in a family court proceeding, upon issuance of an order of protection, to inquire as to the ownership of a firearm by the defendant or respondent.
