Immigration Bill Is Filled with Pork & Carve-Outs

Even Fox News seems to be in the tank for the immigration bill these days. Fox News reporters announced Monday that the bill has to include some pork for different states to make everyone happy. The immigration bill, as it happens, is another pork-laden stimulus bill. Most of the pork was in the bill from the beginning.

Senator Leahy added an amendment over the weekend with $1.5 billion set aside for two years of summer jobs for youths.

Harry Reid has teamed up with Dan Heller to put casino pork into the immigration bill. On page 66, we have The Travel Promotion Act (TPA) of 2009 which allows the Secretary of the U.S. Treasury to spend up to $100 million on promoting travel to specific areas of the country. If the provision Reid and Heller inserted into the proposed immigration reform legislation becomes law, the benefits of the TPA would be extended indefinitely.

Schumer added special visas for Irish workers – NY has a lot of Irish workers. Lindsey Graham secured more visas for the meat industry in South Carolina. Rubio took care of his state’s cruise industry by adding visas for their workers.

To incentivize Senator Murkowski of Alaska, the bill stipulates that ”seafood processing positions in Alaska” — are to be classified as ”shortage occupations,” which will make it easier for the industry to bring in cheap labor in the form of low-skilled and temporary workers. Alaska is the only state to receive this special treatment.

Remember the bribery that went into Obamacare? There was Mary Landrieu’s “Louisiana Purchase,” Ben Nelson’s “Cornhusker Kickback,”  Chris Dodd’s “U-Con,” Bill Nelson’s “Gator-Aid,” for Florida, et al. It is happening all over again.

The Senators are a disgrace.

Oh, by the way, Marco Rubio promised Sean Hannity on his show that he would make certain the clause allowing Janet Napolitano to veto the border fence was removed from the immigration bill. It is still in there. The first thing Napolitano will do is stop the fence. She is already on record as saying the border is secure. Rubio has some explaining to do.
