Leftists Say The Declaration Of Independence Is A Big Government Manifesto

The Declaration of Independence, which stands as a testament to the individual rights of Americans, was written by Thomas Jefferson after he joined in declaring independence from the Big Government in Britain. Leftists now claim The Declaration of Independence is actually a Big Government manifesto.

Danielle Allen, an obviously leftist professor at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, N.J., claims that a period changes the entire context of The Declaration of Independence. She says it wasn’t a period but a blot of ink.

She further states that the Declaration was designed to establish a Big Government to secure our rights to “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”

Danielle Allen, making a name for herself in the world of leftists.

The phrase “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” in the transcript, ends with a period but almost certainly not, the leftist maintains, on the ‘badly faded parchment original’.

The period led to a “routine but serious misunderstanding” of the document, she claims. She says that this tiny change means they wanted a Big Government in some future time.

She says that without the period, the phrase goes immediately into the essential role of governments — “instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed” — in securing those rights.”

In other words, rights don’t end with “happiness”, they end with Big Government.

“The logic of the sentence moves from the value of individual rights to the importance of government as a tool for protecting those rights,” Ms. Allen said. “You lose that connection when the period gets added.”

“Are the parts about the importance of government part of one cumulative argument, or — as Americans have tended to read the document — subordinate to ‘life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness’?” said Jack Rakove, a historian at Stanford and a member of the National Archives’ Founding Fathers Advisory Committee. “You could make the argument without the punctuation, but clarifying it would help.”

As if that isn’t bad enough, the National archives, after a meeting last month with Ms. Allen, says it is weighing changes to its online presentation of the Declaration of Independence.

“We want to take advantage of this possible new discovery,” William A. Mayer, the archives’ executive for research services, said in an email.

The document reads exactly the same to anyone of sane mind, with or with our the period, but the loons always look to alter our history so as to redefine our present and our future into their socialist utopia.

The Declaration of Independence is not a legal document and is not part of the Constitution but it’s something the leftists like to attack.

Common Core curricula will undoubtedly reflect this nonsensical change in the future.

One far-left teacher, Bill Bigelow, who runs the Zinn Project, wrote an anti-July 4 article over the weekend and claimed that George Washington was a war criminal and Thomas Jefferson basically plagiarized The Declaration of Independence.

The attempted destruction of the United States marches onward.
