President Obama gave out 16 presidential Medals of Freedom today, an award, which first began in 1963 when President John F. Kennedy issued an executive order stating that it should be given to people who have made ‘an especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of the United States, world peace, cultural or other significant public or private endeavors.’
Mr. Obama honored the remarkable singer Loretta Lynn; Jazz legand Arturo Sandoval; two great athletes Dean Smith, a great coach, and Ernie Banks, a great baseball shortstop; Washington Post editor Ben Bradlee; two civil rights activists and aides to MLK Jr., Rev. C.T. Vivian and Socialist and gay activist Bayard Rustin; Sally Ride a physicist and astronaut who was the first American woman in space; Sen. Daniel Inouye, an eminent and long-serving senator and WWII war veteran.
The rest of the award winners are a little more questionable.
Brilliant chemist Dr. Mario Molina also received a medal. He is the man who insinuated two days ago that Mr. Obama just didn’t understand the Obamacare bill and then said Mr. Obama didn’t lie when he blatantly did:
“His [Obama’s] understanding of the process has grown a lot in the last three months and he’s much more conversant in the details,” Molina said. But he said too much of the debate has been reduced to scant detail and sound bites — some of which has gotten the White House into trouble. “When the president said, ‘If you like it, you can keep it,’ I think he meant in general terms — you can, as long as it’s an adequate policy. When you try to reduce it to a sound bite, you lose some of the details,” Molina said.
Mr. Obama included RINO Dick Luger among the award recipients. He is known as Mr. Obama’s ‘favorite Republican’ because of his left-wing views. He is most notable for his support of the START treaty in which the US gave up the Eastern European Missile Defense Shield for nothing in return.
Oprah Winfrey was another interesting choice. She just went over to the UK for an interview and used the race card, stereotyping most people who disagree with Obama as racists. She has done her share to divide us along racial lines so why not give her an award for it.
Left-wing Judge Patricia Wald also received an award. She sits on the Board of The Open Society for Justice Initiative, a George Soros’ organization. Soros is one of the country’s most famous Socialists.
Bill Clinton received one. Why, I have no idea. He was the president, why does he need a presidential medal of anything?
My favorite award recipient, however, is Gloria Steinem who has fought for ‘reproductive freedom’ even if it means killing fully-developed babies in the womb.
She found her seminal moment at an ‘abortion speak-out’ and has been running with it ever since.
She was made famous as a femi-NAZI by Rush Limbaugh.
A woman’s right to decide whether or when to have a child is not a ‘social issue’, it is a ‘human right,’ she said. She doesn’t see any limit to women’s rights. Unborn babies have no rights.
Be that as it may, the more important moment came when she made clear her intention to use this award to honor ‘the work of Margaret Sanger.’
Margaret Sanger was a eugenicist and probably a racist. Her appearances at KKK rallies is a dead giveaway for me but not for the left. One writer on Daily Kos, who claims to be a professor, actually said the KKK in the south wasn’t what it is now and it wasn’t that much of a negative.
She was happy to go to KKK rallies:
“I accepted an invitation to talk to the women’s branch of the Ku Klux Klan…I saw through the door dim figures parading with banners and illuminated crosses…I was escorted to the platform, was introduced, and began to speak…In the end, through simple illustrations I believed I had accomplished my purpose. A dozen invitations to speak to similar groups were proffered.” (Margaret Sanger: An Autobiography, P.366)
In E. Drogin, Margaret Sanger: Father of Modern Society, CUL Publishers, 1980, Section 1, p. 18-24;
“Negroes and Southern Europeans are mentally inferior to native born Americans”
Sanger wrote in an article entitled “The Eugenic Value of Birth Control Propaganda,” which appeared in the October 1921 edition of Birth Control Review, the following:
“In this matter, the example of the inferior classes, the fertility of the feeble-minded, the mentally defective, the poverty-stricken classes, should not be held up for emulation to the mentally and physically fit though less fertile parents of the educated and well-to-do classes,” she wrote. “On the contrary, the most urgent problem today is how to limit and discourage the over-fertility of the mentally and physically defective.
“Possibly drastic and Spartan methods may be forced upon society if it continues complacently to encourage the chance and chaotic breeding that has resulted from our stupidly cruel sentimentalism,” she said.
Sanger wanted a new and improved race: ‘[We should] apply a stern and rigid policy of sterilization and segregation to that grade of population whose progeny is tainted, or whose inheritance is such that objectionable traits may be transmitted to offspring.’
Then there was the April 1932 Birth Control Review, p. 108
Birth control must lead ultimately to a cleaner race.
Let’s go to The Pivot of Civilization, 1922. Chapter on “The Cruelty of Charity,” pages 116, 122, and 189. Swarthmore College Library edition
“Our failure to segregate morons who are increasing and multiplying … demonstrates our foolhardy and extravagant sentimentalism … [Philanthropists] encourage the healthier and more normal sections of the world to shoulder the burden of unthinking and indiscriminate fecundity of others; which brings with it, as I think the reader must agree, a dead weight of human waste. Instead of decreasing and aiming to eliminate the stocks that are most detrimental to the future of the race and the world, it tends to render them to a menacing degree dominant … We are paying for, and even submitting to, the dictates of an ever-increasing, unceasingly spawning class of human beings who never should have been born at all.”
She had a view of population control that would have made the Communist Chinese quite proud:
The most merciful thing that the large family does to one of its infant members is to kill it.
In her “Plan for Peace” from Birth Control Review (April 1932, pp. 107-108) she said:
Article 1. The purpose of the American Baby Code shall be to provide for a better distribution of babies… and to protect society against the propagation and increase of the unfit. Article 4. No woman shall have the legal right to bear a child, and no man shall have the right to become a father, without a permit… Article 6. No permit for parenthood shall be valid for more than one birth.
Give dysgenic groups [people with “bad genes”] in our population their choice of segregation or [compulsory] sterilization.
Delightful woman that Margaret Sanger and a fine representation of what Gloria Steinem and our president represent. Oprah Winfrey wants us to respect President Obama. Doesn’t he have to earn it first?
Someone, please, explain to me how the first black president allowed an award recipient to accept the honor in the name of a racist eugenicist.
