We’re making new investments in the development of gasoline and diesel and jet fuel that’s actually made from a plant-like substance, algae. You got a bunch of algae out here, right? If we can figure out how to make energy out of that, well, we’ll be doing all right. ~ Barack Hussein Obama
Obama has a dream, a wild and crazy fantasy of a dream that is meant to distract us from our unaffordable gas prices. We will be on Mars before his dream is realized.
Obama wants to ignore gas price increases, which he hoped would necessarily “skyrocket” anyway as did his energy secretary, Chu, who wants to see $10 gas.
Obama wants pond scum now. Of course the science is 30-50 years from development but, then again, so is Obama’s energy policy.
The math does not compute –
To give you an idea how impractical this is at its current stage, let’s look at a couple of numbers. In 2010, the U.S. produced about 138 billion gallons of gasoline. At $3.00/gallon, that’s a market worth north of $400 billion annually.
Obama’s magical solution? Spending $0.085 billion on researching algal fuels now with a proposed increase to this research of $0.014 billion.
He says algal fuels can replace “up to” 17% of a $400 billion revenue stream yet proposes to invest $0.099 billion to achieve this? We either need to be investing several orders of magnitude more in this miracle technology or zero. Given the Federal government’s track record as a venture capitalist and our current financial situation, I’ll go with zero…Read here: imagination at work – Obama’s been reading the GE slogan again
Bloomberg reports that Obama has already set aside a $14.3 million
payoff, I mean awards (euphemism for taxpayer money) to start it all up. I bet Wall Street and Obama donors are licking their chops. 80% of all energy contracts go to Obama donors so I don’t think I’m exaggerating when I say this is going to his campaign donors AND he will still have his billion dollar stash to annihilate the opponent. What a deal!
Green algae has been linked to brain diseases such as Parkinsons, Altzheimers, and Lou Gehrigs. Read here: Algae lake might have triggered deadly disease and hre: Utah scientist links brain diseases to pond scum
Algal slime needs care. It’s not going to be harvested without a lot of money and effort.
