Obama Told 150 World Leaders He’s Weighing Executive Orders for Gun Control

During the United Nations climate conference in Paris, Obama made it clear that he is frustrated Congress didn’t pass gun control laws.

“I say this every time we’ve got one of these mass shootings, this just doesn’t happen in other countries,” he said.

Of course it had just happened in Paris.

“We are rightly determined to prevent terrorist attacks wherever they occur, whether in the U.S. or with friends or allies like France. … And yet in the United States we have the power to do more to prevent what is a regular process of gun homicides that is unequaled.”

He again stressed he is weighing new executive actions on guns, but he said Congress and state governments “have to act” to fully address the problem.

Obama knows he can’t go as far as he’d like with it so he’s chosen the incremental approach to taking away our gun rights.

People who think the government’s plan is to pass reasonable gun control laws probably didn’t read the 2013 DOJ memo.

The NRA released a 2013 DOJ internal memo titled, “Summary of Select Firearm Violence Prevention Strategies” which explained that “universal” background checks are useless without comprehensive registration of all guns and all gun owners.” Prohibiting certain guns or magazines will be futile without confiscation of such arms currently owned by citizens, the memo stated.

That is the goal for the hard left now in control of our administration.

The memo asserts that assault weapons are not the major cause of the gun crimes and a ban on them would have little impact, especially given the fact that it would take decades to deplete the supply.

They therefore suggest that gun confiscation is the way to go:

Since assault weapons are not a major contributor to US gun homicide and the existing stock of guns is large, an assault weapon ban is unlikely to have an impact on gun violence. If coupled with a gun buyback and no exemptions then it could be effective. [a buyback with no exemptions is confiscation]

The memo indicated handguns were the ultimate target.

Violent crime and gun crimes are going down in the U.S. and most gun-related deaths are suicides, but that information is never shared by the gun control activists.

The assault rifles they want to ban are just rifles but it’s an effective gimmick used by Democrats to lobby for gun control as the New York Times once admitted.

The left under Obama’s bizarre leadership is looking at guns as the cause and not dealing with the issues of gang violence and mental illness, the core problems.

Today the Cato Institute published David Kopel’s monograph “The Costs and Consequences of Gun Control.” In it he analyzes the costs and consequences of gun control. It’s worth reading.
