With the September debt ceiling debate coming up, Harry Reid is pushing Obama’s tax hikes as part of any deal. He said late Thursday that he wants no part of tax reform unless he gets $1 trillion in tax hikes. He also said that Obama rejected the bipartisan pay-as-you-go spending plan. It is reasonable to assume that Obama is pulling the strings and wants his trillion dollar tax increases with no strings attached.
It must be Groundhog Day.

The bipartisan effort to overhaul the nation’s tax code isn’t getting the warmest response from the Senate Democratic leadership.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said that he had no intention of even reading a request from Finance Chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont., and ranking member Orrin G. Hatch, R-Utah, seeking priorities for the tax overhaul.
“I’m not going to be involved in this. I’m not on the committee, I’m not going to do it. I’m not even going to consider it. I frankly haven’t read the letter, don’t intend to,” the Nevada Democrat said.
One Senate Republican aide charged Reid with “sabotage.”
“That the Senate Majority Leader said he has no plans to even read the letter Chairman Baucus and Ranking Member Hatch sent to the whole Senate for tax reform is stunning. First he says he’s behind the Chairman’s effort and then he comes out in what can only be seen as an act of sabotage?” the aide said.
In 2011, Reid demanded a trillion in tax hikes, claiming the money would be saved in spending on Afghanistan and Iraq even though we were not going to be in either country over the next ten years. In other words, he was cutting spending that was not requested and would not be spent. Prior to this, Democrats increased government spending by 29%.
Mike Lee of Utah hoped to get Republicans and some Democrats to agree to the spending bill only if Obamacare was defunded but Republican traitors like John McCain are not going to let that happen. If McCain went along with it, it could succeed. This is the last opportunity to defeat Obamacare and it is not only Democrats, it is Republicans like McCain who won’t do it.
Also late yesterday, Reid was prepared to offer $2.7 trillion all-cuts spending plan (we don’t have a budget since Obama has been president) with no new tax hikes. It would be a pay-as-you-go plan meeting the requirements of the GOP that no new taxes or deficit spending be added. On Sunday, Reid and McConnell came up with the plan which included a short-term increase (cuts greater than the increase),to include a committee that would then find long-term savings before the rest of the increase would be considered.
Sen. Reid took the bipartisan plan to the White House and Barack Obama turned down the agreement.
Obama will blame Republicans but he alone is to blame and he is calling the shots in Senate.
