During a discussion with the Young America’s Foundation Saturday, Rep. Jim Jordan, a member of the House Oversight Committee, said Congress will impeach IRS Commissioner John Koskinen.
“It is something that has to be done,” said the Ohio Republican. “If we don’t hold some people accountable in the executive branch for the executive overreach we’ve seen in [the Obama] administration, then they’ll never get the message.”
It drew applause.
They shouldn’t stop at Koskinen.
The House is going to pursue impeachment because there needs to be consequences for the egregious behavior of the IRS and “we think it’s critical to preserving fundamental freedom, fundamental rights,” said Jordan.
Partisan hack, longtime Democratic donor and IRS Commissioner, John Koskinen, has unreasonably delayed every FOIA request and ignored every court order to turn over documents on the IRS scandal and the infamous Lois Lerner.
After promising at his nomination hearing that he would be honest and open, he’s done exactly the opposite and he’s smug about it.
Koskinen presided over the aftermath of the IRS scandal. After the Lerner scandal, the IRS ordered all communications be preserved. The Treasury Inspector General found that the order was ignored and in March 2014 the IRS destroyed 422 backup tapes containing about 24,000 emails. Many belonged to Lois Lerner.
Koskinen had lied and told Congress he would give all documents to them.
A hearing took place in July as a result of a Judicial Watch lawsuit requesting documents related to the IRS targeting scandal.
During the status hearing, Judge Emmet Sullivan warned that the failure to follow his order was serious and the IRS and Justice Department’s excuses for not following his July 1 order were “indefensible, ridiculous, and absurd.”
Katie Pavlich writing for Townhall quoted Judge Sullivan as saying, “I will haul into court the IRS Commissioner to hold him personally into contempt.”
Trey Gowdy said at the time that the House may vote to hold Koskinen in contempt.
The House sent a letter to Barack Obama asking that he be fired for obstruction of justice. Chairman Jason Chaffetz said if Koskinen isn’t fired, the House may move to impeach him.
When the Lois Lerner hard drive was erased, Koskinen, with unmitigated arrogance and hubris, smirked when responding to questions from Congress. Koskinen said the IRS owes no apologies for the unbelievable epidemic of hard-drive failures among officials involved in the targeting scheme, whose e-mails Congress spent years demanding from the IRS. This clip from the hearing is out of sync but it’s worth listening to.
When he first took the position, he suggested there was nothing wrong in the targeting of conservatives by the IRS but, don’t worry, Barack Obama said there’s not a smidgeon of corruption!
There will be an impeachment hearing and if he does get impeached, they will roll out another Koskinen. There are plenty of Koskinens all lined up, ready to do the same fine job. He is the best our government has to offer and Barack Obama never has to answer for his egregious behavior in this case.
